The Best of Toledo - 2005

Share

(Toledo, OH) This is the time of year in which Americans like to put together Top Ten lists for the past twelve months (there is probably an essay into why we are so obsessed with categorizing, counting and ranking, but that is for another time).

That being said, I am soliciting from readers the best moments of 2005 in Northwest Ohio. People, events, places - may your imagination be unlimited; let's assemble a list of everything that makes this area a worthwhile place to live.

I am turning back on the anonymous post function so that there are a higher number of posts, but be forewarned that I have a hair-trigger on the Delete button...

Mud Hens - World Champs!

Is this just for people?

Nope, anon - people, places, things, events...

I'd second the Mud Hens, that was a major accomplishment.

I'd also add the Toledo Art Museum, they have had some excellent displays this year that it would be hard to pick one as a favorite. But right now "About Face" is a wonderful exhibit that is in conjunction with "Strong Women, Beautiful Men". Both exhibits end December 31st.

I'd also mention the Rib Off, especially since it appears it was the last one that will be held Downtown. To me part of the charm of the Rib Off was it's location...

Agreed on the TMA, Lisa.

I like the food at the Rib-Off, but the prices are, well, pricey.

Also, the lack of decent amenities (especially restrooms) doomed the downtown location.

The Toledo Zoo.

I agree it got expensive but for me it was something I looked forward to and we budgeted for.

The restroom part wasn't that bad compared to some of the softball events we have gone to for the girls...

I couldn't possibly limit my answer to just 1 or 2 items, as there is so much RIGHT about Toledo. It boggles the mind.

I guess that I'll have to devote a seperate blog post of my own to this very subject real soon ;-)

On second thought, why spread the topic around, I will post my list here.

"The Best of Toledo - 2005"

Inspired by historymike’s recent blog post, coincidentally titled "The Best of Toledo - 2005", I was hard pressed to reply in a succinct way to the question posed.

In 2005, I’ve come to appreciate these things about Toledo, Ohio:

Chelsea Tipton and the Pops series at the Stranahan Theater

“A Christmas Carol” at the Stranahan Theater

“The Nutcracker” at the Stranahan Theater

The Valentine Theater and its’ many wonderful productions this season

The Rep

The Village Players

The Toledo Free Press

The University of Toledo

Owens college/university (don’t recall which title is correct)

The many, many fine restaurants in the Toledo area

The Great Lakes living experience

The always “interesting” comedy/tragedy of The region’s (especially Toledo’s) local politics

ToledoTalk.com (Thanks “jr”)

The many bloggers (Lisa, Mike, Val, Jonathan, both Bobs) that I have come to know and appreciate

Carty (Hooray for Carty, blog fodder for the next 4, possibly 8 years or, until he melts down or explodes)

And, the alleged newspaper, that so many of us have come to LOVE to HATE...
