UT - MUO Merger Approved By House

(Toledo, OH) The Ohio House approved a bill that would result in the merger of the Medical University of Ohio and the University of Toledo.

The bill’s sponsors, Reps. Mark Wagoner (R-Ottawa Hills) and Peter Ujvagi (D-Toledo), both spoke in favor of the bill, which was carried without opposition.

The Senate finance committee is expected to consider the bill next week.

“This is another exciting step along the road to the creation on a great university,” said MUO President Dr. Lloyd A. Jacobs.

Both Jacobs and UT President Dr. Dan Johnson attended the session on the House floor. The two men were recognized for their leadership on the proposed merger.

If approved by the Senate, the bill must signed by Gov. Bob Taft before the merger would take effect. The official merger would then occur on July 1, 2006.

Thanks to Karl Rundgren of FOX Toledo for passing this news on to me.

You have my best wishes in these stressful times.

Any idea how many heads will roll with this merger?

More people out of work, just what we need...
