UT-MUO Merger News

Share

The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio have launched a new Web site that "will serve as a means to keep the community informed about the proposed merger of the two entities," according to a press release from Tobin Klinger, UT director of university communications.

With the approval from the three major unions this week of merger language, it looks as though the merger is marching right along.

The site can be accessed this link, and it contains information about the merger, documents and contact information during the merger process.

In a letter on the site UT's Dr. Dan Johnson and MUO's Dr. Lloyd Jacobs believe that there may be "legislative approval possible as early as March 2006."

A family friend's sister is 2nd in charge of MCO's Dept. of Human Resources. The sister said that UT is looked down on because MCO's financial resources trump UT's by several miles, and she has no fear about her job. She believes that she'll bump her UT counterpart.

I say that is ARROGANT & DANGEROUS thinking.

Unfortunately there will be quite a few jobs lost in the process, Mrs. Phoenix.

This is likely the wave of the future, though, as universities compete for fewer dollars and the remaining students who can afford a college education.

The US will not suffer in the short term, but 20 years down the road I suspect that we will see the folly of budget cutting today.

And probably overspend in a futile attempt to compensate for their earlier foolishness, if history repeats yet again.
