Oh, How I Love Blogger...

Share
(Toledo, OH) Yet again the virtual goblins ate another of my posts. I am, at the moment, too irritated to think clearly.

I was working on a post about a Palmdale, CA man who was charged $4,334.33 at his local Burger King for four dollar-menu burgers. Click on the link to read more; it has a happy ending.

I did the research, combing six articles for the interesting info, digging through the Bank of America website on policies, and ending with an anecdote about my own personal travails with a similar accidental debit of monstrous proportions.

Instead, when I clicked "Publish Post," the goblins attacked. Attempts to reload the Dashboard page proved fruitless, and I could not recover the page from my IE cache.

May fire and brimstone never cease to fall in deadly showers on Blogger headquarters, and may all of Satan's minions forever assail the town of Mountain View, CA.

I've done that, too. It makes me absolutely nuts.

I've taken to copying and pasting some of the longer posts into notepad before I publish, just in case. You lose formatting, and links, but you've got the writing there just in case.

I'm really sorry. I empathize.

Ha!

After I got burned a few times, I got in the habit of right-clicking "Copy" just before I publish.

Then, a little time goes by, I get complacent/lazy/hurried, and BAM! the Blogger goblins strike again.

And then the cycle repeats...

I guess I've been lucky, the few times that has happened the "recover post" option on blogger has worked for me.

I've taken to writing my posts in notepad too. I also copy all comments before I hit the publish button since I've experienced problems there too.

Regarding the Burger King incident, I'm appalled. I would have thought once corporate headquarters called and verified the mistake that the error would have been immediately reversed. So much for thinking logically.

I write and save all my posts on word and then copy and paste them in. The one time I didn't was when the goblins attacked. I heard about the Burger King thing today on the radio. Didn't he hear her say the amount before he handed her the debit card? Lord, my husband would kill me.

I have heard about the mysterious "blogger ate my post." I can't recall this having happened to me. Of course, I don't use IE either.

And speaking of IE. When visiting my blog, you can't see my colorful banner art with IE as compared to Netscape and Firefox.

Haven't had a post eaten yet, but I've had comments mysteriously disappear. And since my comments are sometimes as long as my posts...

I sympathize, Mike. If it's any consolation, it is a free service and sometimes concentrating on that helps me. Buggy Blogger is better than no Blogger at all.

The inherent problem with Blogger goblins is that they strike only on long posts with which the writer has invested a great deal of thought and energy.

They could never zap a two-paragraph post on, say, my flat tire. Noooooo! They wait until I have a moment of insight, or when I have devoted 60 minutes researching a complicated topic.

I can almost hear their sinister little laughter...

That's what happens when they eat my comments, too. And it tends to be rather difficult to reconstruct such thoughts.

Yep, the Blogger Bandits have stolen a few of my post already. Like everyone else hear I have taken to writing in my text editor then copy/paste. Also saving a draft if I am posting directly to Blogger. But that sucks too because then you navigate away from your posting page and have to return.

I been thinking of switching to Wordpress but I have no idea if I can recreate the look and feel that I currently have.

For the price I guess Blogger is an excelent tool. I joined the Google Blogger help group and recieved a lot of advice as well as fixing some issues. Be warned that you have to interpert a little broken English/Text as a lot of the posters there are from India.

It just now dawned on me why I have about a dozen hits from India! And here I was thinking it was my posting on the Rat Monkey

Same here. I also wish they would get some more templates that we can choose from. I tire easily of the 10 or so designs they have.

KOZ,
There are many different websites around that offer free or inexpensive templates. If you feel really ambitious you can tweak the current one you are using. I have done some tweaking of my own and soon hope to make a revision in the way a user can post comments.
