This is an irregular feature - both in frequency and oddness - dedicated to a word I came across that I have never previously used.hachure - n. a line used in shading relief maps to indicate the steepness of elevated slopes; v. to shade a relief map with hachures.
The word hachure is derived from the French hacher, meaning "to crosshatch."
