also from Goethe, this is a quote I would post in my classroom, waiting for the students to ask about it. and they do... and it opens the door to respect. essentially pygmalion theory.

"oh.. you're going to treat us like we're older?"

"that's right, unless you show me otherwise...." they usually buy in.
